Kid in a candy store

This story has little to do with Newcastle so indulge me a bit. When you are younger you always hear from someone that times were different when I was younger. You never believe it back then but sure enough when you get older you think to yourself “Wow, I would never let my kids do that now.” My Mom had four children in a span of about 3 1/2 years. So you can just imagine the chaos. And now imagine it if your a single Mom after my parent’s divorce. Needless to say we got into a bunch of mischief and were left to our devices much of the time. We were a holy terror. All of us delivered newspapers which allowed us to have money, not much, but as a pre-teen it was a fortune. Once my older sister turned 13 it was decided that we could take the bus from Milford to New Haven every Saturday to visit our Dad. So that is four kids between 13 and 9 1/2 walking 3 miles and taking 2 buses on our own for a 1 1/2 hour trip. What could go wrong? I mean seatbelts were still optional at this time. We were oblivious to the dangers of this trip because all we could think about was getting to Wanda’s Sugar Shack! I mean you’ve got maybe 3 or 4 bucks in your pocket to spend ay a penny candy store on the way to bus. Who cares that we had to go through the worst part of New Haven without ANY parental guidance At All!! Not when you have Gobstoppers, Hubba Bubba gum and the latest X-Men comic book in your hand. We were unstoppable. I think back now on our adventures and we were so lucky that the bus driver we had always had our backs and made sure to wait for us every morning. After a while, quite a few regulars knew us and watched over us as well. But as an adult at this very moment all I can say is WTF?

Thanks for indulging me with that story. Obviously, my title reflects that we have finally made it to the Transfer season. We can go shopping for the flavors of the day and the best candies and come out of this feeling as unstoppable as that kid leaving Wanda’s Sugar Shack. Boy, would that be fun! Unrealistic, but FUN. So what does Newcastle do? Our list of needs just got a bit longer with the injuries suffered during Monday’s game against Man U. I will say one thing that has gotten better is our midfield. Howe has recreated Joelinton into the box to box midfielder we have been lacking for quite a while now. His game has allowed Shelvey with all of his flaws to focus on the things he does well which in turn relieves the stress on other parts of the 11. This does not solve the bigger problems of the club but it does relieve the team of having to redo everything about the team. So here are the players mentioned that we should bring in to team in January.

Moussa Dembele – Striker (Lyon) or

Anthony Martial – Striker (Man U)

Jesse Lingard – AM (Man U)

Kieran Trippier – Fullback (Athletico) An Absolute must sign

Conor Coady –  CB (Wolves)

Samuel Umtiti – CB (Barcelona) Just fantasy but would be great

James Tarkowski – CB (Burnley)

Van de Beek – Mid (Man U) loan

I expect no Top 6 team will allow us to take any of their players.

Let’s see what happens. HWTL
